Transitioning to 2nd Grade

I’ve officially started the 2026-2027 school year. I spent more money, time, tears, and stress on my new classroom than I care to admit. Working with a co-teacher for the past 5 years has you sharing your materials, resources, and spaces. Going from a small crowded classroom with 2 teachers and stupid triangle desks that took up too much space, to a large classroom with just me and my things felt overwhelming.

My ADHD decision paralysis hindered me the most during my summer classroom set up. I always could rely on my co-teacher to just make the decisions for us and tell me where to put my things and where to move the desks. Having no other opinions or input was a real struggle for me.

My desk was originally right where you first walked in. It was facing into the classroom, however my back was towards the door. You know how they say your bed’s headboard should always face the door because of the Fung Shei and the bad vibes that comes with it? Well that’s how I felt about my desk. I wanted to move it to the opposite corner, but I wasn’t sure if I’d like it there. I sat on the idea for a month until finally, 3 days before opening in-services, I moved it. I rarely sit in my desk anyway, so if I completely hate it, it won’t be the end of the world.

I felt like I had too much storage, and not enough storage all at the same time. I purchased 3 IKEA Trofast drawers and I FB Marketplaced an IKEA Kallax 8 cube storage unit and the IKEA Alex drawers. I have zero regrets. IKEA, feel free to sponsor my classroom. I already had to change the location of my carpet because I hated it so close to my TV. I felt like I was stepping on the kids in the front. I know I will change the other furniture 10 times before June and probably 2 more times before next week, but for now I am at peace of my new room.

Here’s to new beginnings and positive auras.
